Method
- Butter an 11 x 7 inch baking dish to ensure the casserole doesn’t stick.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vegetable broth until well combined. Set aside.
- Take 2 tablespoons of Nutella and spread it on each of the 8 slices of bread.
- Roll each slice up tightly like a cigar, with the Nutella filling tucked inside.
- Dip each rolled bread slice into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak briefly. Place them seam side down in your prepared dish, packing them in tightly.
- Gently pour any leftover custard over the rolled bread.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours—or better yet, overnight—to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the casserole for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden and delicious.
- Dust with powdered sugar and for an extra touch, drizzle melted Nutella on top. Enjoy with fresh sliced strawberries and/or bananas for added flavor.
Notes
Prepare this casserole the night before for enhanced flavor and a quick morning meal. To prevent sogginess, use day-old bread and cover with foil while baking to ensure it cooks evenly. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for later use.
